Sewing, Wearing, and Our Recycled Backer
Sewing and Placement
Most patches are sewn on by hand. About 10 stitches will hold a 3″ patch; for a patch that never comes off, stitch every 1/4″. Don’t want to sew? A patch adhesive kit like Badge Magic works with just scissors, or use a free button loop.

100% Recycled Plastic Backer
Every Scouting America patch we make has a backer made from 100% recycled PE plastic. Patches can use two stickers instead, but stickers don’t hold up to heat and humidity, and many fall off and become litter.
Troop & Pack Unit Numerals
Skip sewing three or four single digits. Our one-piece unit numerals put your whole unit number on one patch: khaki with green numbers for Troops, red with white numbers for Packs, with an optional veteran bar built in.

The ClassB Patch Story
As a Scout, I had a very profound experience with patches, and the memory of it has shaped the culture of ClassB. Within a week or two of joining my Troop, we went to a camporee. It was one of the defining events of my life, and I can still remember every detail: the excitement of simple Scout contests, running down dirt trails on a ridge overlooking the camporee site, and the tower my Troop built that seemed unbelievably tall. Every second of that weekend was magical.
I had no idea I’d get a patch just for being there. When I was handed that patch, I felt like I had been part of a unique event in the history of the world, and here was my prize. I took it to school and showed my friends. To an eleven-year-old, that patch meant emotion, hope, and excitement. Scouting gives kids that kind of experience.
At my next camporee I played capture the flag for the first time with about 50 Scouts. It was unbelievable. On the drive home I noticed something odd about my patch: part of the square knot was missing. I was eleven, and I thought I had done something wrong. We had just moved across the state; maybe this new Troop didn’t like me? I was embarrassed enough to consider leaving Scouting. All of that from the tiniest production error.

50 patches. Patrol patches have low minimums, and unit numerals start at 10.

How long do custom patches take?

Do we need finished artwork?
No. Send an idea, a theme, or a simple drawing, and our artists will create the design with free revisions. You approve every proof.
Can our patches use official Scouting logos?
Yes. ClassB is an Official Scouting America Licensee, so your patches can include official Scouting marks, made to the custom patch guidelines.
