Most custom patches have a 50 or 100 piece minimum. We make a small run for your patrol, and extra patches from the run are offered to other patrols as Scout Designed Patrol Patches. That’s how we keep the minimum low.

Why Scouts Should Design Their Own Patch
Choosing a patrol name and designing its patch is one of the first things a new patrol does together, and it’s a small lesson in the patrol method.
- Identity and pride. Scouts feel more connected to a patrol they helped define, and they wear the patch proudly.
- Teamwork. Agreeing on a name and a design takes discussion, compromise, and a vote.
- Leadership. The patrol leader runs the project, from the first sketch to the final proof.
- Staying in Scouting. A strong patrol spirit keeps Scouts coming back.
Why are our minimums so low? We’re passionate about Scouting, and we believe the patrol method and patrol spirit keep kids in the program. We lose money on many patrol patch orders and make some of it back when other patrols buy the extras. We think it’s worth it.
A Recycled Patch Backer
Our embroidered Scouting America patches use a backer made from 100% recycled PE plastic. We skip the two-sticker option because stickers don’t hold up to heat and humidity, and the ones that fall off end up as litter.

Can our Scouts draw the design?
Yes, and we love it when they do. Use the patrol patch worksheet or send any sketch. Our artists make it patch-ready and send a proof.
What are the rules for patrol patches?
A 2″ round patch with a khaki background, up to 3 thread colors plus khaki, no letters or numbers, and no licensed characters or logos. We check every design and tell you if anything needs to change.
How long do custom patrol patches take?
Plan on about 5 weeks, including artwork approval.
